New Features in KB5055627 for Windows 11 Version 24H2
The KB5055627 update introduces a slew of exciting features, but many of them are available for Copilot+ PCs only. Here are the highlights, with a focus on their functionality and availability.
Recall (Preview) for Copilot+ PCs
Recall is an AI-powered feature exclusive to Copilot+ PCs with 45+ TOPS NPUs. It captures snapshots of your screen every few seconds and stores them locally. Runs OCR to extract text, and uses AI for contextual understanding. This allows you to search for the moments using everyday language and go back in time.
- Recall saves snapshots of your activity, which are securely stored and accessible only after you opt in and enroll in Windows Hello for enhanced security.
- Rolling out gradually in select markets (e.g., United States, not yet in the EU). Optimized for English, Chinese (Simplified), French, German, Japanese, and Spanish
- If you forgot where you saw a specific document? Just describe its contents, and Recall will find it.
Note: To use Recall, ensure your PC meets the hardware requirements and switch your region to a supported country if necessary.
Click to Do (Preview) for Copilot+ PCs
Click to Do is another AI-driven feature that enhances productivity on Copilot+ PCs. It provides contextual suggestions based on on-screen content, streamlining tasks like image editing or text manipulation.
- Right-click on text, images, or documents to access AI-powered actions like cropping images, translating text, or summarizing content.
- Gradual rollout, exclusive to Copilot+ PCs. Not available in the European Economic Area (EEA) at launch.
- Select a paragraph and instantly generate a summary or translate it into another language.
Semantic Search with Windows Search
Windows Search gets a major upgrade on Copilot+ PCs, thanks to semantic indexing models combined with traditional lexical indexing. This allows for natural language searches, making it easier to find files, photos, and settings.
Semantic Search reduces the frustration of locating files, especially for users with large libraries or vague recollections of content.
- You can search using everyday language (e.g., “find my vacation photos” instead of exact file names).
- Works offline, leveraging the 40+ TOPS NPU on Copilot+ PCs.
- Enhanced search in File Explorer, taskbar, and Settings (e.g., “change my theme” works in the Settings app)
It’s now available on AMD and Intel-powered Copilot+ PCs.
Phone Link Integration in the Start Menu
The KB5055627 update brings Phone Link functionality directly to the Start menu, allow seamless access to your Android or iPhone without opening the Phone Link app.
Allow View notifications, messages, or recent photos from your mobile device via the Start menu. It Requires a linked phone and the latest Phone Link app version.
Again, it’s rolling out gradually to all Windows 11 24H2 users.
Widgets Improvements
Widgets in Windows 11 are getting smarter and more customizable, especially for users in the EEA.
- Lock Screen Widgets: The weather widget on the lock screen now supports customization (Settings > Personalization > Lock screen > Customize widget).
- Web Developer Widgets: Developers can create interactive widgets for multiple surfaces using existing web content
File Explorer Enhancements
File Explorer sees significant performance and usability improvements in KB5055627:
- Faster ZIP Extraction: Extracting ZIP folders is now 5-10% faster, especially for archives with many files.
- Address Bar Fixes: The address bar no longer shows blank paths or closes unexpectedly after opening a specific path.
- Menu Alignment: Context menus in File Explorer now open in the correct direction.
- Text/Display Scaling: Improved scaling for better readability across different display settings.
The built-in Narrator tool now displays the last spoken content with an option to copy it, improving accessibility for users who rely on live transcription. Windows Update now provides an estimated offline time for installing updates, displayed on the Windows Update settings page and the Start menu power button.
- Fixed an issue where taskbar icons remained underlined after closing apps.
- Touch PC users can now use gestures to view pinned apps without issues.
- App shortcuts (e.g., Snipping Tool) now have transparent background.
- The automatic framing filter is now enabled by default for the first camera use on supported PCs
- Resolves a SECURE_KERNEL_ERROR (error code 0x18B) that occurred after installing the April 2025 security update and restarting
- Fixes intermittent internet connectivity issues after resuming from sleep mode
- Addresses unexpected OS crashes with blue screen errors when using a user profile redirected to a network VHD(X).
- Corrects an issue where content pages with JPEG images failed to display.
- Fixes a bug where running System Preparation (Sysprep) after installing Windows 11 version 24H2 caused push-button reset options to fail.
- Resolves login problems after PC resets
Microsoft also noted two ongoing issues: Users on Arm-based PCs may be unable to download or play Roblox from the Microsoft Store. Devices with Citrix Session Recording Agent version 2411 might not complete installation of the January 2025 security update.
