Solved: Windows 10 Keeps going into sleep after 1 minute idle

After a recent windows update/upgrade, quite a few users start experiencing a variety of problems as windows 10 sound not working, black screen at startup, etc. Now few users report Windows Automatically goes to sleep after every 1-4 minutes of inactivity. Also, some users face a situation where sometimes the computer stops responding after the lockout, and they had to reboot their PC.

Fix Windows 10 sleep after 1 minute idle

Sleep mode is a great way of keeping your PC ready to go at a moment’s notice without wasting power. If it stops working, it can be a difficult problem to diagnose. Here we have some solutions you may apply to fix the issue.

Here is the solution that worked out for me

Press Windows + R, type regedit and ok to open windows registry editor. Here first backup registry Databse then Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power\PowerSettings\238C9FA8-0AAD-41ED-83F4-97BE242C8F20\7bc4a2f9-d8fc-4469-b07b-33eb785aaca0

Right-click Attributes -> change its value 2 and ok to make the changes, close registry editor.

Now open control panel -> Open Power Options -> Under prefered Plan -> click on Change Plan Settings -> Change Advanced Power Settings -> Sleep -> System Unattended Sleep Timeout -> Set your preferred settings. click ok and apply to make save changes.

Check your screen saver

Open Settings & search “screensaver“. Look for a search result that says Turn screen saver on or off and click on screen saver setting. Here that even if you don’t use a screensaver, the time value is used to lock the screen. You need to set this to None and make sure the checkbox is off so that it doesn’t require a password.

Tweak Windows 10 Sleep Mode Settings

  1. Start -> Control Panel -> Power Options -> choose what the power button do.
  2. Choose when to turn off the display -> Change advanced power settings -> Adjust the options to your needs -> Apply

Restore Power Plan Defaults

Another tip to keep your computer from going to sleep randomly is to restore its default power plan settings:

  1. Start -> Settings -> Power & sleep
  2. Additional power settings -> Choose when to turn off the display -> Restore default settings for this plan

No such option? Then go to:

Choose when to turn off the display -> Change advanced power settings -> Restore plan defaults

Run Power Troubleshooter

Microsoft has especially designed a power troubleshooter tool to fix this type of power, sleep, hibernate related problems. Run the troubleshooter by following the steps below to resolve the most common problems with your power plan.

Click on start menu search, type troubleshoot, and hit the enter key. Scroll down look for power, Select the same and click on run the troubleshooter.
