Google’s Gemini Nano AI model is now integrated into Chrome to detect tech support scams in real time, enhancing security through on-device analysis. AI also improves autofill predictions, making form completion faster and smarter. Additionally, Gemini is now embedded within Chrome for select users, offering direct access to AI assistance for various tasks, including editing CSS in DevTools and generating performance insights.
Chrome 137 includes features like HSTS tracking prevention and Blob URL partitioning to boost privacy. The update also removes insecure legacy features such as the –load-extension switch and SwiftShader fallback. Other security improvements include disallowing spaces in non-file:// URLs and aligning WebAuthn error handling.
DevTools now includes Gemini AI support, allowing developers to edit CSS, analyze performance traces, and annotate findings. New experimental features such as Automatic Workspaces make syncing code edits smoother. Lighthouse continues its shift to performance insight audits for more actionable metrics.
Chrome ends support for Android Oreo and Pie, macOS 11, and will remove support for Manifest V2 extensions by June 2025. Certain legacy media APIs are also being deprecated.
Security-wise, Chrome 137 addresses eight security vulnerabilities, including a high-severity use-after-free issue in Compositing (CVE-2025-5063), reported anonymously. Other medium-severity issues include inappropriate implementations in Background Fetch (CVE-2025-5064), FileSystemAccess API (CVE-2025-5065), and Messages (CVE-2025-5066), reported by various security researchers.
